In a remarkable demonstration of collaboration and commitment to education equity, Tunakujali CBO proudly partnered with the Education Office – Malindi, the Jomo Kenyatta Foundation, and the World Bank in a rigorous two-week vetting exercise aimed at transforming young lives through education.
The process attracted over 1,000 applicants—bright students who had successfully completed Grade 9, drawn from needy and vulnerable families across the region. Each application carried a story of resilience, hope, and determination against overwhelming odds.

Tunakujali CBO proudly joined national stakeholders in the historic launch of KNAP 3 (Kenya National Action Plan on UNSCR 1325), reaffirming our unwavering commitment to women, peace, and security. As a key civil society actor, Tunakujali not only supported the strategic roll-out of KNAP 3, but also actively engaged in advocacy, ensuring that the voices of marginalized women and youth in Kilifi County were represented in shaping policies that promote gender equality, conflict prevention, and sustainable development.
In addition, Tunakujali played a vibrant role in the Resolutions 1325 celebrations, commemorating the global agenda that recognizes the critical role of women in peacebuilding. Through community dialogues, awareness campaigns, and youth-led initiatives, we amplified the message that peace and security are collective responsibilities and that inclusive participation of women and young people is key to achieving lasting transformation.

Tunakujali CBO, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Malindi, continues to stand at the forefront of establishing and nurturing Interact Clubs in schools.
As part of this commitment, we recently held a special training for teachers who have graciously taken up the role of Interact Patrons. This training was designed to equip and empower them with the knowledge, inspiration, and practical skills needed to guide and mentor young leaders in their schools.
Through the session, patrons were strengthened to channel their passion, creativity, and dedication into planning meaningful and exciting projects that align with Rotary’s Seven Areas of Focus. By empowering these teachers, we are ultimately nurturing a generation of compassionate, responsible, and service-driven young people who will make a positive impact in their communities.

In a bold and impactful initiative, Tunakujali CBO, in partnership with key stakeholders, joined hands to mark International Condom Day—a day dedicated to promoting sexual health, safe practices, and awareness on HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections.
Through interactive community forums, educational talks, and distribution of condoms, the event reached youths and adults across Kilifi County, empowering them with knowledge and resources to make informed choices about their sexual and reproductive health. Health experts, community leaders, and volunteers collaborated seamlessly, creating an atmosphere of openness, learning, and responsibility.

Strengthening community–security collaboration in Kilifi through dialogue and partnership.
Recently, the National Counter Terrorism Centre Kenya convened community leaders, members of the Kilifi County Engagement Forum, and national and local administrators to strengthen coordination, improve early warning systems, and deepen trust between communities and security actors in line with the National Strategy for Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism.
Tunakujali CBO participated in the forum, reaffirming its commitment to community-driven peacebuilding and prevention efforts. Through its work in community dialogue, youth engagement, and grassroots peace initiatives, Tunakujali CBO continues to support early warning mechanisms, promote constructive engagement between citizens and security agencies, and contribute to the implementation of PCVE efforts in Kilifi County.
The forum underscored the importance of multi-stakeholder collaboration in strengthening community resilience, preventing radicalization, and building sustainable peace across our communities.

At Tunakujali CBO, we believe that access to health care and a voice to share one’s story are powerful steps toward healing. In partnership with WADADIA Hospital, we successfully conducted a week-long medical camp that provided much-needed services to community members.
The initiative culminated in the celebration of International Women’s Day, creating a safe and empowering space where fistula survivors courageously shared their journeys. Their stories of pain, hope, and recovery reminded us of the strength of the human spirit and the importance of compassionate health care.
Together, we continue to restore dignity, inspire hope, and stand with women on their journey to healing and renewed confidence.

“A Celebration of Young Minds and Bright Futures "
The just concluded Quiz Event brought together 10 vibrant schools in a spirited display of knowledge, confidence, and teamwork. From thought-provoking questions to moments of excitement and triumph, the atmosphere was nothing short of inspiring.
While the top three schools emerged victorious and were proudly awarded for their outstanding performance, every participant walked away a winner, each receiving a gift as a token of encouragement and appreciation.
This event was more than a competition; it was a powerful reminder that when young minds are nurtured, greatness unfolds. We celebrate every student who showed up, dared to try, and shone in their own unique way. The future is indeed bright!

District 9212 Leads the Way
In a powerful step towards strengthening service and impact, District 9212 leadership recently brought together Rotarians from the coastal region of Kenya for an insightful and transformative learning session on grant management.
The training created a vibrant platform for learning, sharing, and growth-equipping participants with practical skills on how to effectively plan, manage, and successfully complete grant-funded projects. From understanding compliance requirements to ensuring sustainability and accountability, every session was tailored to empower Rotarians to serve their communities with greater confidence and excellence.
What stood out most was the spirit of collaboration and dedication in the room. Rotarians engaged actively, exchanging ideas and experiences, united by a common goal: to create lasting, meaningful change in their communities.

Driving inclusive growth and resilience at the community level, Tunakujali Community-Based Organization (CBO), in partnership with Echo Network Africa, continues to champion the socio-economic empowerment of youth and women within the aquaculture value chain. Through targeted capacity-building initiatives, the program equips participants with practical skills in sustainable fish farming, improved post-harvest handling, and strategic fish trading practices, enhancing both productivity and market competitiveness.
The partnership further strengthens financial inclusion by facilitating access to revolving loan funds and providing hands-on training in financial literacy, business planning, and loan application processes. Beneficiaries are supported to develop viable aquaculture enterprises, expand their trading ventures, and improve household incomes while building long-term economic resilience.
By addressing systemic barriers such as limited access to capital, market inefficiencies, and gender disparities, Tunakujali CBO and Echo Network Africa are fostering a more inclusive, equitable, and sustainable aquaculture sector—where empowered women and youth are not only participants, but key drivers of transformation and community development.

At Tunakujali CBO, we believe that lasting peace begins at home and grows through honest community conversations. In pursuit of this vision, we recently convened a transformative Dhome dialogue in Muyeye Village, Malindi, bringing together more than 40 men to reflect on the challenges facing their families and community and to identify practical solutions for a safer future.
Rooted in the rich Giriama tradition, Dhome is a respected gathering where men come together to discuss matters of family, leadership, and community welfare. By reviving this cultural practice, Tunakujali CBO is creating a trusted platform where difficult conversations can take place openly, respectfully, and constructively.
As the men gathered around a bonfire under the evening sky, they engaged in heartfelt discussions on the growing threat of juvenile gangs commonly known as Mawoza-Woza, positive parenting, youth mentorship, family relationships, and the role of fathers in preventing violence and safeguarding children. The atmosphere encouraged honesty, allowing participants to share personal experiences and acknowledge the need for stronger family bonds and greater community responsibility.
One of the most significant outcomes of the dialogue was the collective commitment by participants to spend more time with their children, strengthen cooperation within their families, and work closely with local leaders to identify and support vulnerable youth before they become involved in crime or violence. The men also agreed that regular Dhome meetings should continue as a sustainable community-led mechanism for mentorship, accountability, and peacebuilding.
The event was enriched by the participation of security officials, local administration representatives, community leaders, and child protection stakeholders, who emphasized collaboration and information sharing as essential tools for improving safety and building trust between communities and public institutions.
What made the initiative especially powerful was its reliance on culture as a catalyst for change. Rather than imposing external solutions, Dhome draws upon local traditions and collective wisdom to inspire ownership, restore dialogue, and strengthen resilience from within the community itself.
For Tunakujali CBO, this is more than a single event—it is the beginning of a long-term movement to empower communities to address the root causes of insecurity through conversation, mentorship, and shared responsibility. By creating safe spaces where people can speak honestly and act collectively, we are helping families reclaim their role as the first line of defense against violence, crime, and social exclusion.

Empowering Youth and Women Through the Blue Economy
Tunakujali Community-Based Organization (CBO) is proud to implement the Youth in Sustainable Aquaculture (YISA) project in Kilifi County, with the aim of creating dignified employment opportunities, enhancing livelihoods, and promoting sustainable use of marine and aquatic resources.
The project focuses on empowering young people—particularly women and vulnerable groups—with practical skills, knowledge, and market opportunities across the aquaculture and mariculture value chains. Through training, mentorship, and enterprise development, participants are equipped to engage in activities such as fish farming, crab fattening, fish processing, value addition, and environmentally responsible aquaculture businesses.
At the heart of the project is the belief that the blue economy offers immense potential to address youth unemployment while strengthening food security and economic resilience. Tunakujali CBO works closely with local communities to promote innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainable resource management that benefits both people and the environment.
The YISA project also places a strong emphasis on women's economic empowerment by encouraging their participation and leadership in aquaculture enterprises. By supporting women-led businesses and youth groups, the initiative helps increase household incomes, reduce poverty, and foster inclusive community development.
Beyond employment creation, the project contributes to climate resilience by encouraging sustainable aquaculture practices that reduce pressure on wild fisheries, support mangrove conservation, and promote responsible management of aquatic ecosystems. A medical camp activity conducted through a partnership between Rotary International, Rotaract, and Tunakujali Community Based Organization focuses on delivering essential healthcare services to underserved communities. The initiative brings together experienced medical professionals, volunteers, and youth leaders to provide free services such as general medical check-ups, health education, basic laboratory tests, and distribution of medication.

Tunakujali CBO recently conducted a meaningful outreach visit to Kilifi GK Prison, reaching approximately 400 male inmates through a program designed to promote dignity, self-reliance, and rehabilitation.
Recognizing that sustainable change begins with opportunity, the organization donated essential materials and facilitated a practical training session on the production of washing detergents. The inmates were not only provided with the necessary chemicals but were also equipped with hands-on knowledge and skills to manufacture the detergents themselves.
The initiative aimed to empower participants with vocational skills that can be applied within the correctional facility and potentially provide a source of livelihood upon their reintegration into society. By introducing simple, marketable skills, Tunakujali CBO seeks to inspire confidence, encourage productivity, and support pathways toward economic independence.
Beyond the technical training, the visit fostered meaningful engagement and reminded the inmates that they remain valued members of the community with the capacity to learn, grow, and contribute positively to society. The atmosphere was one of encouragement, respect, and renewed hope for a better future.

Tunakujali CBO, through its flagship Mwanamke Imara Initiative, successfully convened a transformative dialogue that brought together the Malindi security team and boda boda leaders representing various stages across the town.
The engagement created a valuable platform for open and constructive discussions on road safety, community security, responsible leadership, discipline, and peaceful coexistence. Led by the OCS and other security officials, the session reinforced the importance of collaboration between law enforcement and the boda boda sector in fostering a safer and more united community.
During the dialogue, boda boda chairpersons committed to working hand in hand with security agencies, championing compliance with traffic regulations, promoting responsible riding practices, and serving as ambassadors of peace within their respective stages.
This initiative reflects Tunakujali CBO’s commitment to empowering local stakeholders to become active partners in preventing conflict, enhancing public safety, and strengthening social cohesion. Building Safer Communities Through Collective Action in Shella
Tunakujali CBO, through its Mwanamke Imara initiative, convened a transformative community dialogue at Takaye Social Hall in Shella Ward on Monday, 4th May 2026, bringing together local residents to address the growing challenge of Mawoza and strengthen community safety.
The meeting fostered open discussions, collective problem-solving, and shared responsibility, resulting in clear resolutions aimed at preventing insecurity and promoting peaceful coexistence. A major outcome was the establishment of a Community Safety Watch Team, mandated to enhance community reporting, improve coordination with relevant stakeholders, and lead grassroots awareness efforts.

Through the Mwanamke Mkekani initiative, Tunakujali CBO is creating safe spaces where women openly discuss parenting, child protection, peacebuilding, social cohesion, and the challenges threatening the wellbeing of families and young people.
In our recent dialogue at Kasufini, Shella Ward, 50 women came together to identify practical, community-led solutions to issues such as youth vulnerability, substance abuse, family neglect, and the erosion of positive values. The session demonstrated that empowering women is not only an investment in families but also in sustainable peace and resilient communities.
We believe that lasting peace starts with honest conversations and collective action. With increased partnership and support, Mwanamke Mkekani can reach more villages, empower more women, and strengthen the protective environment around children and youth across Kilifi County and beyond.

Tunakujali CBO, in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Malindi, successfully launched its annual Sanitary Dignity Project, benefiting 350 schoolgirls.
Each beneficiary received a Dignity Pack containing a one-year supply of sanitary towels, a bath towel, bathing soap, and a T-shirt. The initiative aims to promote menstrual health, restore dignity, and empower girls to attend school with confidence and without interruption.
Through this partnership, Tunakujali CBO and the Rotary Club of Malindi remain committed to improving the well-being of girls and creating an environment where every child has the opportunity to thrive with dignity and hope.

The Director and Founder of Tunakujali CBO, who also serves as a Rotarian and the Country Interact Chair, successfully brought together over 150 delegates from across Kenya for a transformative leadership conference. Held under the inspiring theme, "Dare to Grow," the event created a vibrant platform for young leaders to learn, connect, and inspire one another.
Through engaging keynote addresses, interactive sessions, mentorship, and networking opportunities, delegates were empowered with practical leadership skills, personal development insights, and the confidence to become positive changemakers in their schools and communities. The conference reinforced the importance of collaboration, service above self, and nurturing the next generation of ethical and compassionate leaders.

Day Two of the Interact Conference featured an inspiring session led by alumni of international youth exchange programs, who shared their personal journeys and experiences of participating in these life-changing opportunities.
The speakers provided delegates with a comprehensive overview of the youth exchange process—from the application and selection stages to preparation, cultural adaptation, and the invaluable experiences gained while living and learning in different countries. They highlighted how exchange programs foster personal growth, leadership, cultural understanding, confidence, and lifelong international friendships.
Through their engaging stories and practical guidance, the alumni encouraged young leaders to embrace global opportunities, step outside their comfort zones, and become ambassadors of peace, service, and cross-cultural understanding. The session inspired many delegates to consider participating in future youth exchange programs as a pathway to broaden their perspectives and develop into globally minded leaders.
