Who we Are
Tunakujali is a Swahili word meaning "we care about you". Tunakujali Community-Based Organization was established in 2019 in Kilifi County, Kenya, in response to the growing social, economic, and peace-related challenges affecting marginalized communities, particularly women, youth, and vulnerable groups.
The founders of Tunakujali CBO recognized that many community members were trapped in cycles of poverty, exclusion, gender-based violence, environmental degradation, and conflict, largely due to limited access to opportunities, information, and inclusive decision-making spaces. These challenges were further compounded by unemployment among youth and women, weak governance structures, and insufficient platforms for peaceful conflict resolution.
Tunakujali CBO was therefore formed as a grassroots, community-driven organization to promote inclusive development, peaceful coexistence, and sustainable livelihoods. Since its inception, the organization has focused on empowering communities to become agents of their own development, while fostering resilience, equality, and accountability.
Guided by its vision of peaceful, resilient, and sustainable communities, Tunakujali CBO works to ensure that every individual regardless of gender, ability, or background has equal opportunities to live a dignified life and contribute meaningfully to community growth.
Through advocacy, education, and sustainable development initiatives, Tunakujali CBO continues to address root causes of conflict and vulnerability while strengthening community capacities for long-term prosperity.
